TECHNICAL BUYER GUIDE

Choose additives by function,
not just product name.

Compare the job each additive does in PVC and rubber processing, then check the exact factory grade against your formulation.

BEFORE SELECTING A GRADE

Start with the finished product and the process.

A PVC formulation balances impact performance, fusion and melt strength, thermal stability, lubrication and, for foam products, gas generation. A change in one ingredient can affect another part of the process. Use this guide to frame the enquiry, then confirm the actual grade against its factory TDS and your production trial.

SIX SELECTION QUESTIONS

What should the additive do?

Each family addresses a different formulation or processing problem.

01 / TOUGHNESS

Impact modifiers

Impact modifiers are selected to improve toughness in the finished PVC article. CPE, acrylic, ACM and ASA-based options are different material families; their suitability depends on the resin, outdoor exposure, processing method and impact target.

For a useful enquiry

Tell us the finished product, impact test or service temperature, resin grade, current modifier and weathering requirement.

02 / MELT BEHAVIOUR

Acrylic processing aids

Processing aids are considered when a PVC compound needs better fusion control, melt strength, surface finish or metal release. They do a different job from impact modifiers, even when both are used in the same formulation.

For a useful enquiry

Share the extrusion or calendering process, current resin and additives, output rate, fusion behaviour and surface defects.

03 / CELL STRUCTURE

Foam regulators & blowing agents

A foam regulator helps the PVC melt support and control the developing cells. A chemical blowing agent releases gas during processing. The two functions must be assessed together against the temperature profile, target density and cell structure.

For a useful enquiry

Give us the foam process, equipment, temperature profile, target density, board or profile thickness and current blowing agent.

04 / HEAT CONTROL

Calcium-zinc stabilizers

PVC requires an appropriate stabilization system during thermal processing. Calcium-based systems, including Ca-Zn, are used in a range of pipes, profiles and other products. Suitability depends on the whole formulation and any market-specific requirements.

For a useful enquiry

Specify the end product, resin, process temperature, color target, service conditions and any required standard or compliance document.

05 / LUBRICATION

PE & Fischer-Tropsch waxes

Wax selection influences friction at the melt-metal interface, fusion timing and the appearance of the extrudate. PE wax, oxidized PE wax and Fischer-Tropsch wax are not interchangeable without formulation trials.

For a useful enquiry

Send the current wax type, process, fusion or sticking issue, surface target and any required drop point, viscosity or acid-value range.

06 / COMPOUNDING

Rubber modifiers

CPE elastomer and powder nitrile rubber are considered for different rubber or PVC blend systems. The target property, polymer compatibility and curing route should be checked before choosing a grade.

For a useful enquiry

Tell us the base polymer, mixing and cure process, target physical properties and any existing grade used for comparison.

BUYER CHECKLIST

What to include in an RFQ.

The more precise the enquiry, the more useful the grade recommendation and quotation.

  1. Finished product, base resin or rubber system, and production process.
  2. Current grade or TDS, plus the problem you want to solve.
  3. Relevant test target: impact, color hold, foam density, surface finish or processing behaviour.
  4. Trial and regular-order quantity, packing preference and destination port.
  5. Documents required: TDS, SDS, batch COA or agreed inspection method.
FREQUENT QUESTIONS

Clarify the role before ordering.

Is an impact modifier the same as a processing aid?

No. An impact modifier is selected mainly for toughness in the finished article. A processing aid is selected for melt and processing behaviour, such as fusion or surface quality. Some grades have overlapping effects, so compare their factory data sheets in the actual formulation.

Does a foam regulator replace a blowing agent?

No. The regulator supports melt strength and cell control; the blowing agent provides gas during heating. Grade selection depends on the process temperature and target foam structure.

Can one additive grade work in every PVC formulation?

A product name alone is not enough. Resin grade, stabilizer and lubricant balance, equipment, temperature profile and final performance targets all affect the choice.

What documents should I request before ordering?

Request the current technical data sheet and safety data sheet for the exact grade. Discuss the certificate of analysis or agreed batch test values, packing and inspection terms before confirming an order.

Can I use a published dosage recommendation directly?

No. Published values for another company’s grade are useful for understanding the category, but are not specifications or dosage instructions for the material offered here. Confirm values with the producing factory and validate them in your process.

This guide explains general additive functions. Performance and compliance for a Shuoyang Kunhe material depend on the exact grade, factory documents and customer trials.
